Knowledge acquisition and upgradation of skilled human competencies is vital in present day to meet the economic and industrial needs at the regional and national level. Thus, integrating adequate knowledge and skills has broader scope to ensure that the graduates get appropriately employed or become entrepreneurs

Origin of the Schemes

In view of this, the UGC, GoI implemented the Scheme of Community College from 2013-14 on the initiative of the MHRD. The Commission also launched Scheme of B.Voc. Degree programme to expand the scope of vocational education and also to provide vertical mobility to the students admitted into Community Colleges for Diploma programmes to a degree programme in the Universities and Colleges. To give further push to vocational education on an even larger scale Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Centres for Knowledge Acquisition and Upgradation of Skilled Human Abilities and Livelihood (KAUSHAL)’ are established during the XII Plan period across the country.

About the Vocational Courses at JSS College

JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Ooty Road, Mysore was started in 1964. The college is an autonomous College of University of Mysore and is re-accredited by NAAC with ‘A’ Grade. The college is recognized by UGC as ‘College with Potential for Excellence’. The College offers

1. Community College Scheme

a) Advanced Diploma in Animation and Multimedia
b) Advanced Diploma in Retail Management
  - Eligibility : 10+2 or equivalent
  - Scholarship : 1000/- p.m. per student
  - Duration of courses : Certificate course: 6 months; Diploma: 1 year; Advance Diploma: 2 years
  - The curriculum has 40% general education and 60% vocational education components. Students have the option of multiple exits. Credit and semester system. Students obtaining Diploma (NSQF Level 5) and Advance Diploma (NSQF Level 6) from Community Colleges are eligible for admission into 2nd and 3rd year of B.Voc. Degree programme respectively.

2. Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc) Degree Programme:

a) B.Voc in Software Development
b) B.Voc in Food Processing and Engineering
c) B.Voc in Advanced Telecom Technologies
d) B.Voc in Tourism and Hospitality Management
  - Eligibility : 10+2 or equivalent
  - Duration of courses : 3 years
  - The curriculum has 40% general education and 60% vocational education components. Students have the option of multiple exits. Credit and Semester system. Students can exit after one year with a Diploma; after two years with an Advance Diploma; and after three years with a B.Voc. Degree

3. Master of Vocation (M.Voc) Degree Programme:

a) M.Voc in Software Development
b) M.Voc in Food Processing and Engineering
