The Founder of JSS Mahavidyapeetha, His Holiness Sri Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Swamiji Established the Department of Economics as early as 1967 with a vision to provide the students of Mysore and the neighboring villages with the knowledge of Economics which shall help them come out of dearth of poverty and enter into the stream of knowledge to uplift the Indian Economy, to rise itself to the level of high international economic order. Since its inception the Department of Economics has prepared the students to obtain various jobs in the Administrative Services both at the State and National Level. Some students who got their BA with Economics as one of their subjects in the Degree Course have completed their higher studies in Manasagangothri, Mysuru and other University Centers. Many alumni of the department have contributed to the knowledge of Economics by writing on various topics of Economics. Many have written even the reference books on different subjects of Economics. The Department of Economics has conducted many Workshops, Seminars and Conferences.
The faculties are also actively participating both at the State and National Level Seminars and Conferences as delegates and resource persons. The faculties have contributed to the knowledge of Economics by writing books on various topics of Economics. Many have written even the reference books on different papers of Economics. The Department of Economics has 5064 books with 1956 Titles in the Central Library and 11 Journals and periodicals along with World Bank Report and IMF Report.
Behind the success of the department there lies the dedication of Seniors, team spirit and Co-operation of the College administration as well as our esteemed JSS Mahavidyapeetha. It is their joint endeavor to pursue the academic excellence.

Program Outcomes
The Programme outcomes (POs) are expected to be as under:
- Students will be able to understand economic vocabulary, methodologies, tools and analysis procedures.
- Students will be familiar with the knowledge and application of micro economics for the formulation of policies and planning.
- Students will learn to apply economic theories and concepts to contemporary social issues, as well as analysis of policies.
- Students will be able to understand the impact of government policies and will be able to assess the consequences of the policies on the parties involved.
- As the programme along with economics contains like statistics, mathematics, it enhances them to compute and assess the real situation of the economy including the size and changes of population, income pattern, and rate of development with pattern of savings and investments and social security measures adopted in the country.

- Ability to design Questionnaires and other Survey tools.
- Ability to structure and analyse economic data with statistical tools, software and equipment;
