Overview: 

The Postgraduate Department of Social Work offers Masters and PhD Programmes to produce meritorious, skilled ambitious and professionally trained manpower to work in the areas of HRM, Medical & Psychiatric Social Work and Community Development.

Established in 2001, the Postgraduate Department of Social Work at JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science (Autonomous), Mysuru, has been committed to developing competent, ethical, and socially responsible professionals in the field of social work. The Department offers Master of Social Work (MSW) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) programmes, designed to equip students with the knowledge, skills, values, and professional competencies required to address contemporary social challenges.

The Department provides a balanced curriculum that integrates quality theoretical instruction with intensive field practicum, enabling students to bridge classroom learning with real-world practice. Students can specialize in Human Resource Management (HRM), Medical and Psychiatric Social Work, and Community Development, preparing them for diverse career opportunities in government organizations, industries, healthcare institutions, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and development agencies.

With a team of experienced and dedicated faculty members, the Department fosters academic excellence, research aptitude, leadership, and professional ethics. Strong collaborations with NGOs, industries, hospitals, educational institutions, and community organizations provide students with extensive field exposure, internships, research opportunities, and hands-on professional training.

Scheme /Credit Matrix 

The present scheme and syllabus under Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) and Continuous Assessment Grading Pattern (CAGP) is as follows. Students are provided opportunities to deliver seminars and write Assignments. Field work will provide hands-on opportunity to test theory in practice.
